This is an unusual book for a few reasons. First, it presents history from a Catholic perspective. This means that the events in the book are gauged by the effect they have on the Church and society from a focus of Catholic moral and social teachings. Thus, the legalization of abortion abortion and the institution of slavery can only be seen as inherently immoral. While other histories or historians may view such acts as morally neutral, the Catholic historian cannot.
Additionally, the book tends to emphasize the role of Catholics and the Catholic Church in America. This is not to say that major events are ignored, but perhaps other less significant events, that secular historians might feel are of greater consequence, are covered to a lesser extent.
"I bought about 6 different history books in order to decide which to use for a co-op class and I kept coming back to these volumes. They are up-to-date, contain more information about subjects not covered in other books, and are written by Bruce Clark, whom I have always respected because of his enormous history knowledge. These volumes make me excited to teach. The only drawback is no answer key to the chapter questions, which I hope Seton will eventually provide."
"Very happy with a way to present information to our children about our nation AND our faith all in one resource!"
"We love the text - but there are no answer keys. That makes keeping up with grading very difficult."
